Eight Years On

As you'd image the urge to start this post by saying I can't believe it's been eight years! is quite strong. In truth, however, I pretty much forgot that this blog existed. In fact it was only when I lazily used the "log in with Google" option on the Blogger app that my attention turned to it again. Hopefully I'll think to post regularly going forward.

What prompted my return to book blogging was the fact that I've just finished reading Some Desperate Glory by Emily Tesh, one of the novels nominated for the best novel Hugo Award this year. Unfortunately, it was a book that I never really got into as, like most of the story's characters, I just didn't like the protagonist.

Don't get me wrong, the novel's core concept of what it's like to be a woman in a "man's world" is an important one, but I just couldn't get into Some Desperate Glory as a story. Of course, the book had it's entertaining sections and was a relatively quick read when I actually sat down to it but it still took me over two months to read. In the book's defence I've been going through a bit of a reading slump recently too.
